New Sketch “He’s Got The Whole World in His Hands”

Long time since an update! Hope people are still sticking around! I have some new pieces but have been slacking on the website!.

This is a piece I did in July. It is the largest drawing I have ever done on a 16 X 24 piece of paper and done mainly with 2B-6B pencils. I honestly can’t even remember how many hours this took, but it took a long time. I paid very close attention to detail and wanted to make sure it was perfect. In the areas with the most detail I would spend up to 1 hour on a square inch of detail. I was very nervous to draw the “world” and I contemplated leaving it blank and jokingly made a statement that if the whole world thing didn’t turn out, it could just be a white ball & end up a picture of someone playing beer pong. 😉

Anyways! Hope you enjoy, I have some prints available to purchase and am also selling a downloadable PDF as well. Just drop a comment! As always, I appreciate all feedback, constructive & otherwise.

Cat and the Fishbowl

Cat and the Fishbowl

Cat and the Fishbowl

I have been on a hiatus! No posts in 3-4 months. Well, I’m back 🙂 I’ve missed drawing, I’ve just been busy with life. Raising 2 young kids, while expecting our 3rd in November is enough to keep me busy.

Materials: Mechanical Pencil (HB), 2B, 4B, 2H, kneaded eraser

Time: appx. 4 hours

This was a very fun drawing. The shading in this drawing was extremely challenging, and I found the most difficult part to be was creating the “glass” look with the fishbowl. Surprisingly, the cat and fish subjects were the easiest and quickest for me to do. I spent most my time highlighting and shading the fishbowl itself trying to create a realistic look. The light source is clearly from the left-handed side and the background shading was extremely important in this drawing. A lot of the images came from negative space (ie the cat). Overall I’m pleased with the way it turned out. If I were to do this drawing again, I’d spend more time and detail on the shape of the fishbowl..I don’t find it perfectly spherical. I’d also add more detail to the cat (like hair and fur and whiskers), but if you’ve been around the blog a while, you know that I have a fear of drawing “hair” (aka I’m not very good at it) 😀

If anybody is still around, thanks for reading! I’ll be posting a lot more drawings in the coming weeks, so check back! And as always, I appreciate any feedback (including the harsh & constructive)! Thanks 🙂
